Isle of Palms to Bohicket, SC

Left Isle of Palms about 8 AM this morning in cloudy conditions.  Unfortunately this made for less than ideal pictures of the Charleston harbor area, but you have to take what you can get.  The Arthur Ravenel Bridge was just out of the mist and clouds as we passed.
This bridge was built in 2005 to replace the old bridge over the Cooper River connecting Mount Pleasant, SC and Charleston, SC.  There are 8 traffic lanes in addition to pedestrian and bike lanes.  There are some phenomenal pictures of the bridge on the internet showing the lighting on the bridge during the night and some great sunrise shots for those that may be interested.
At the base of the Ravenel bridge on the Mount Pleasant side is Patriot's Point Naval and Maritime Museum complex.  The USS Yorktown aircraft carrier is the centerpiece of the complex and you can see her bow in this shot.
She was built in Newport News, VA in 1943.  Known as the "Fighting Lady" she played a significant role in the Pacific offensive in WW II.  In 1957 she was modernized for jet aircraft and given anti-sub capabilities.  She earned 5 battle stars during service in Vientam and recovered the Apollo 8 astronauts and their capsule in 1968.  Decommissioned in 1970, she was moved to her current location at Patriot's Point in 1975 and is a floating museum and piece of history.
Along the Charleston waterfront is Rainbow Row.  This is a series of 13 corlorful and historic houses on the waterfront in Charleston.  It is the longest cluster of Georgian row houses in the United States.  This is one of the most photographed attractions in Charleston.  Again the weather was not ideal today for photos to do these homes justice, but you can get a sense of their appearance.

Just south of Charleston, we saw some sailboats up on the bank.  This was most likely a result of  Hurricane Irma coming through this area.
Although it was cloudy in the morning, the sun burned through by about 11 AM and the rest of the trip to Bohicket was quiet and smooth.  We docked around 1:20 PM in a ripping current on the marina face dock.  Tomorrow morning we will leave for Beaufort, SC.
