Beaufort, SC to Hilton Head, SC

Left Beaufort, SC Friday morning and had an easy, short trip south to Hilton Head, SC.  It was only about a 4 hour trip to get to Hilton Head.  This is the lighthouse at Harbor Town on the south end of the island.
As we approached the Harbor Town Lighthouse we turned off the ICW and Calibogue Sound and traveled north northeast up Broad Creek about 5 miles and into Shelter Cove Marina.   This is a picture looking out of the marina into the entrance with some of my people enjoying a little paddle.
And this is looking down into the marina from Southern Style.

This island unlike much of all our other stops so far on our adventure is not so much a historic area.  It is definitely a resort through and through.  There is golfing, tennis, water sports, shopping, etc all across the island.  It is probably best known for its championship golf courses as many of you who are avid golfers already known.  As a matter of fact it was named No. 10 world's best golf resort by Golf Digest.  There are courses designed by noted golf architects  including Robert Trent Jones Sr., Pete Dye, and Jack Nicklaus.  Keith will be playing golf Sunday and Monday.  Gail and Pengi will be kayaking, biking, and maybe shopping.

Weather on Saturday was not ideal.  It was cool and windy so Keith and I scored the marina golf cart and made a grocery run to stock up.  They were so kind to let us use the cart (not a typical thing for them to do) so I picked up ingredients to make marbled brownies for the marina staff as a thank you.  Thanks to Jason and staff, you are the best.

By later afternoon, it was bearable to go for a bike ride, so Keith and I crossed the island on the bike path.  We made it to the beach, but the ocean was very stirred up with the wind.
Hopefully we can get back to the beach to enjoy some shell hunting Sunday or Monday.  There are many small rivers and lagoons throughout the island.  One traveled along the side of the bike path.  It looks so inviting but..........
apparently there are critters in the water.
I need to keep a sharp lookout on my paddle tomorrow.  I should be fine out in the bigger water of the river.  I can take Pengi for protection.

We made it back to Southern Style with the bikes.  This is her in the marina, and you can see some of the many condos behind her.

Going to try a Mediterranean place for dinner tonight.  Hope to find some hummus, baba ghanuoj, falafel, and kabobs.  Yum.
