Back in the "Bern" New Bern, NC

We arrived in New Bern, NC Monday October 7th.  This was almost exactly 2 years from when we first got on board Southern Style in New Bern to start our cruising adventure back in 2017.  It is great to be back in New Bern and to be able to see old friends.  We are planning to be here in New Bern possibly for the month of October.  Here are some of the sites from our first week.

One of the many "Bern Bears" around town

For those who may not know, New Bern was settled by Baron Christopher DeGraffenried from Berne, Switzerland in 1710.  Berne, Switzerland has had the bear as its city seal back as far as 1224.  As the sister city of Berne, Switzerland, New Bern also has had the Bern Bear in its seal since its founding.

Mum Fest was the weekend of October 11-13th.  There were arts, crafts, food, bands and performers.
Tryon Palace, the Governor's Mansion and captial of North Carolina from 1770-1794 had its gardens open all weekend at no charge.  Keith and I walked around the gardens on Friday late afternoon.

Our first week in New Bern has been great.  It has been really nice being back in a place we are so familiar with.  We are looking forward to spending more time here and enjoying our friends and the fall colors.
