Chebeague Island, Maine

Sunday morning July 14th, Keith and I planned to leave Portland and go to a small island just northeast of Portland for an overnight mooring and dinner at the island's inn.  As we were getting things ready to leave, Keith noticed some line between the back of the boat at the dock.  He began pulling it up and got a good 20-30 feet of the line up out of the water, then it got tight.  He could see that it disappeared under Southern Style and was hung up on something.  We had it stuck on either our propeller or the rudder.  Barely into Maine and we already have a line wrapped around our undercarriage.  We taped our Go-Pro camera to a boat hook and stuck it under the back of the boat.  The video showed a line around the propeller.  It was only wrapped twice around the prop, but it was enough that we couldn't pull it free.  Just great!

Luckily the boat next to us had a family on board and one of the guys was a scuba diver.  He was gracious enough to jump into the 62 degree water with a mask and cut the line for us.  It only took 5 minutes.  We were so thankful for their help.  This allowed us to get off the dock as scheduled and head to our mooring.

A cruise ship was docked in downtown Portland when we left

We had only 10 miles to our next stop at Chebeague Island (pronounced she-Big).  This is one of the many islands along the coast of Maine.  This island is known for an old historic inn located there.  The inn has rooms and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner for guest and the public.  If you eat there, you can stay overnight on one of their mooring balls.  We arrived around 12:30 PM and grabbed a mooring ball.  Keith played golf at the course beside the inn and then we had a very nice dinner Sunday evening at the inn.
