Final Stats from Our "Great Loop"

Capt Keith here.  I'm going to provide some final statistics from our trip.  But first a BIG shout out to Gail.  Gail has done such a great job of keeping everyone informed of our adventure over the past year through her blog posts.  She is amazing in so many ways and has made our trip even more memorable than I could have imagined.  Thank you Gail!!!

While she has been the color commentary of our trip, I have been the keeper of all things related to numbers (as accountants often do).  So without further delay, here is the nitty gritty numbers from out "Loop":

Loop Began: 4/6/18 from Palm Coast, FL

Crossed our Wake: 3/30/19

Total Adventure:  357 Days

Total Miles Traveled:  5,856

Total Fuel:    8,381 gallons (diesel)

MPG:   0.7 (miles per gallon)

Engine Hours:   598

Generator Hours:  227

Average Fuel Burn:   14.02/ gallons per hour

Average Travel Speed:   9.79 mph

Average Fuel Price:   $2.95

Most Expensive Fuel:  $3.36 (Michigan City, MI)

Least Expensive Fuel:  $2.60 (Chesapeake, VA)

Nights at a Marina:  308

Nights on a Wall:  19  (Lock Walls or City/Town Walls)

Nights at Anchor:  30

Everyone asks what was the best part of the trip.  It is a difficult question to answer as there were so many memorable places we visited.  However, the scenery in Canada was by far the most enjoyable part of our adventure.  Anchoring in Canada was amazing.  One breathtaking view after another and every anchorage is more scenic that the last.  We enjoyed our time in Canada so much that we are looking forward to going back in the summer of 2020.

That concludes our "Great Loop", but our cruising is not coming to an end.  We look forward to more adventures aboard Southern Style.

Very interesting stats Capt Keith. Looks like you were quite efficient in your fuel utilization, time, distance and speed! In fact, if I did the math correctly, it only cost you $69.25 a day. Heck, that's better than staying at the Holiday Inn!

And I agree -- Gail has done an amazing job with the blog, pictures, stories and historical facts along the way. We have enjoyed riding along and getting to share some special time together in Florida and Maryland. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Stay safe and stay in touch!

Thanks Capt Pete & Rachel.

We did most of the trip at 8 kts burning about 7 gallons per hour, but there were several days that we needed to run faster and would travel at 20 kts or more. I thought we did pretty good on average. We were lucky we had such nice weather on our trip. Running from weather was almost nil on our trip.
