Chub Cay

We are straying several days at Chub Cay.  This cay/island is a resort.type atmosphere.  Keith had been here a number of years ago, but there have been quite a few changes since then.  Back around 2014 the Bishop Family from Texas purchased the marina and surrounding property.  They have added to the marina and built a large club house, restaurant, infinity pool and beach bar.  There are also numerous beach houses for rent as part of the resort.

This is a picture of the entrance inlet into the marina.  Rental units on the left and channel into marina at right.

This is the path up to the club house

Pengi is loving the resort

There are numerous rental units around the property.  This is one street with rental units to both sides of the street.  The new owners have spared no expense with the paths and landscaping.

One day Keith and I took our bikes and rode down the island.  We did some beach-combing and had fun finding treasures.

This is the path that goes down the length of the island.  It is just a dirt road on top of the coral base of the island.

Here is the beach we found.

And these are the sea biscuits and small conch shell I found.

We also found Turtle Creek which is an inlet at the base of the island.  It looks like a cool place to kayak, but it is so far down the island it would be difficult to reach.

Russ befriended a fishing boat next to us in the marina and went fishing with them the next day.  He brought home a nice wahoo, and we had the restaurant at the club cook it for us at dinner.  We had half of it grilled and half blackened.  It was awesome.

Chub Cay's location provides easy access to an area of the ocean known as "The Pocket".  This is where the deep Tongue of the Ocean, an area up to 6,000 feet deep, meets the shallows of the Bahamas Bank.  It is where large billfish such as Marlin and Sailfish can be found as well as other fish such as mahi, snapper, wahoo, and grouper.  The pocket is over 1,000 feet deep and is known as the billfish capital of the western hemisphere if not the world.

On our last full day in Chub Cay, Russ and Keith both went fishing.  They brought home some Strawberry grouper, snapper and grunt.  More fish for dinner.  Michele and I had a relaxing girl day.  Our next destination will be New Providence Island where Nassau is located.  The weather looks like we will be there for 5-7 days as the wind is predicted to blow nonstop for awhile.  Our friends Russ and Michele will be catching a flight home to NC from there.  We really enjoyed their visit with us and can't wait to see them again when we travel to Ocracoke in May.
