Buckhorn, Bobcaygeon, and Fenelon Falls

After a wonderful stay at the Lovesick Lock we continued on to Buckhorn on Tuesday July 10th.
We stayed one night on the wall in Buckhorn and then went to Bobcaygeon for two nights.

On the wall in Buckhorn

The park along where we docked overnight

We are beginning to see the infamous rental houseboats everywhere.  Imagine a floating camper with a captain that has no boating experience and one engine maneuvering through narrow channels and locks with your boat... say a prayer for us.

Leaving Buckhorn on the way to Bobcaygeon, we had very shallow water and touched bottom twice.  All is fine when we are cruising at 8 knots, but running at 20 knots there is a small vibration.  Rats!!!!!!!  We have been very surprised to find we are touching bottom here in the Trent-Severn Waterway.  A 65 Fleming we talked to in Buckhorn also has had some trouble touching bottom.

Bobcaygeon is a slightly larger hamlet with several restaurants and some shopping.

Downtown Boncaygeon

Bigley Shoes and Clothing in the right of the above picture has the largest selection of men's and women's shoes I have ever seen.  Their clothing is also very nice and high end.

Bobcaygeon Lock and swing Bridge
The bridge was built in 1921 and is the oldest swing bridge on the Trent-Severn Waterway

Bridge open with boat entering lock just past the bridge

Relaxing on the the back of Southern Style looking away from the lock

Two more of the 7 bridges that connect Bobcaygeon to the surrounding land

There are also numerous black squirrels around, they are kind of cool.  I caught a picture of one from the boat while docked in Bobcaygeon

Thursday July 12th there was a concert in the park.  Captain Keith and I got Chinese take-out and listened to the music.

Friday morning July 13th we left Bobcaygeon and cruised to Fenlon Falls.  This small hamlet is located at lock 34 and is quite popular with locals as well as loopers like us.  There are several shops, restaurants and a quilt store (me smiling).

Fenlon Falls

The dam is in the distance and the natural falls are in the near shot

Heron I saw just before entering the lock at Fenlon Falls

Entering the lock at Fenlon Falls with two other boats

As we came out of the lock there were boats all along the lock wall and no room for us.  We decided to go out into the lake just past Fenlon Falls and anchor until after hours then tie up on the blue line in town once the lock closed at 6:30 PM.

Southern Style anchored

More shots of the falls after we had docked

Flowers in the Park near the Falls

Sunday morning we will be moving on through 5 more locks and plan to stay on the wall at lock 39.
