Oh Canada

Well after 2 1/2 days at the boat yard getting our shaft seal fixed in addition to a new cutlass bearing and 2 new house batteries, we are finally under way, making way.  We traveled in the cold rain on Wednesday, June 27th, leaving Winter Harbor, NY around 12:30 PM and going toward Oswego, NY.  At lock 6 they got the doors stuck and we had to back out of the lock and tie up along the wall.  They worked on the doors and were kind enough to stay late and get Southern Style and one other boat that got stuck with us through locks 6, 7, and 8.  This ended the Oswego Canal and by 8 PM we were secured at the docks just before coming out onto Lake Ontario.  Captain Keith and I were drenched and tired, but in excellent position to go across Lake Ontario early the next day.

Thursday morning June 28th both of us were up by 6 AM and there was no wind and the lake looked great, so we untied and headed across at 6:30 AM.  The water was smooth.  The only down side was fog.  Have I mentioned how much I hate fog!

We crossed right over the center of the lake and it got very deep.

After coming across Lake Ontario and cruising up the Murray Canal, we crossed the Bay of Quinte and came into Trent Port Marina in Ontario, Canada.  A simple phone call to customs and they allowed us into the country.  I even got a shot of our first Canadian wildlife.

Southern Style was tied at our spot in the marina by 2:30 PM.

This was our view of the Bay of Quinte from Southern Style

Tomorrow Keith will be at a seminar about the Trent-Severn Waterway which we will begin on Saturday.  I plan to join him in the afternoon portion after a morning hair appointment.
