Happy New Year and welcome to 2022. With a new year comes a few changes. Gail has decided to give up the blog for awhile (I think she is a little burned out), so you will be getting the muses of Capt Keith for the new year. I know I won't be able to match the history lessons and style of Gail, but I will do my best to try and keep our faithful readers entertained.
So to begin, we finished up a spectacular two weeks with Geoff and Celeste Smith in Lighthouse Point, FL. We had an absolute blast getting to see south Florida with them. We drove around the coast and hit some great lunch spots while we were there. Our culinary tour finished with a New Year's Eve soiree aboard Southern Style. We wanted to thank them for all of their hospitality and had a terrific send off to 2021. The menu included shrimp cocktail, ribeye steak, a very small lobster tail and a twice baked potato.
New Year's Eve Dinner with the Smith's
While neither the Mackey's or Smith's made it to midnight to ring in the New Year, we all had a great time. Geoff and Celeste promised to come visit us up in Jupiter after they get back from their cruise to the ABC islands in the southern Caribbean this week. We can't thank them enough for the two weeks we spent with them.
The time finally came for us to head to our new home at Admiral's Cove in Jupiter, FL. Gail and I were up at 6:00am just waiting for there to be enough light to get going.. At 6:55am, Geoff and Celeste help us cast off our lines and we departed Lighthouse Point for our 55 mile journey north to Jupiter.
Just enough light for us to head out the Hillsboro Inlet from the ICW to the Atlantic Ocean
Gail and I celebrated the start of 2022 by fishing our way up to Jupiter aboard Southern Style. The sea conditions were a little bit rougher than we like, but it was not too bad. Fortunately for us the wind was out of the south, which was behind us as we traveled north in the Gulf Stream. Seas were 2 to 4 feet, but were very, very close together. By 7:30 we had lines in the water making 8 kts up to Palm Beach and the Lake Worth Inlet.
As luck would have it, by 8:30 Capt Gail put us on the fish and I got to reel in a nice 10 to 12 pound Mahi Mahi (Dorado or dolphin fish). This is one of the best eating fish that swim in the ocean as it has a very sweet and tender white filet. We had two more "hook-ups" as we traveled north, but both fish had come off after long runs pulling line off of the fishing reels. So landing 1 out of 3 fish is not great, but we still had fresh fish for dinner on New Year's Day.

So that was our adventure to ring in the New Year. We are just getting settled into Admiral's Cove. There is so much to do and we have lots of things to learn about our new surroundings. I will do my best to get some pictures of the place and try to post updates once a week. Gail and I are anxious to get on the tennis courts and I am looking forward to getting back into golf this winter.
To Health, Happiness and Prosperity to all in the New Year!
